Just the beginning…

Hi, I’m Emily Tobin, an aspiring artist based on the beautiful central coast of California. My journey with ceramics began in high school, where I took a couple of classes and quickly fell in love with the craft. After the summer of 2020, I decided to dive deeper and invested in my own pottery wheel—and not long after, a kiln to match.

Growing up near the coast, the ocean has always been a deep source of inspiration for me. I’m endlessly fascinated by the textures, colors, and movement of beach and marine life, and I bring that same appreciation for detail into every piece I create. Each item is not only uniquely handmade, but also thoughtfully designed to be functional—pieces meant to be enjoyed in everyday life, not just admired. Whether it’s a mug that feels perfect in your hands or a vase that brings a bit of ocean serenity into your home, my goal is to craft art that connects beauty with utility.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Baylor University and am thrilled to combine my artistic passion with my business background as I grow my ceramics business here on the Central Coast. I’m especially excited for the opportunity to work with By the Bay Gallery, where I look forward to sharing my work with a community that values creativity, craftsmanship, and the spirit of the coast.

Currently, my work is available at several local shops, including Monarch Gallery in Cambria, The Natural Toolbox in Pismo Beach, Park Street Gallery in Paso Robles, Making SLO in San Luis Obispo, and By the Bay Gallery in Morro Bay. I also participate in craft fairs and maker’s markets throughout the year, and I love connecting directly with customers who share a love for handmade, coastal-inspired art.
